Week Ahead: Aug. 12-16
|I had the opportunity to work at an art gallery / shop where the artist based much of her work on the idea that we get to pick our attitude. I am so privileged to work with such a talented group of educators who daily choose to be positive and who inspire our students to be positive as well. Thank you all for making the start of the year feel so darn great! I am choosing happiness!

Student Council Representative Elections Coming Soon: We will be having student council elections on August 28 and 30th during DEAR (we will offset the DEAR launch with the elections once the grade levels for the launch are set). In order to prepare students for the elections and to promote candidacy, StuCo Executive Council would like to take the first 10 minutes of A, B and C blocks on Monday and Wednesday next week. I will have the schedule ready tomorrow. If you teach A, B or C you will only have to give up 10 minutes one time. I’m sorry for the late notice, but this go-getting Exec. Council really wants to get StuCo up and running as fast as possible.
Emergency Evacuation Drills / Alarms: Please go through evacuation drill / alarm procedures with each of your classes. This should focus on evacuation routes (primary and secondary) as well as behavioral expectations. The non-negotiable behavioral expectations are:
- Walk in a single file, silent, straight line out of the building; teacher ensuring this through proactive supervision
- Once on the field, regroup by advisory in silence
- Stand on the field in a silent, single file, straight line until alerted it is safe to re-enter the building
- Return to classroom via multiple entry points rather than the single main entrance to building A
Your emergency folder contains your advisory list as well as the advisory list of the two advisors on either side of your line up location. If a teacher does not appear, it is your responsibility to take attendance and supervision of the students without a teacher. For your advisory group, please ensure they know your number. That is where they will line up in the regrouping. Number 1 is closest to the building.
DEAR Launch: DEAR will be launched on Tuesday, Aug. 27th. Claire will be supporting this launch in the library, hosting all three grades the week of the 26th. Be on the look out for more information.
Student Survey: Kudos to Claire for organizing the student survey. She has worked with team leads to arrange for it being administered. We look forward to learning more about our students!
Sunshine Committee Dues– The Sunshine committee organizes a number of great events and celebrates and supports those staff members in need over the course of the year. In addition to monthly birthday celebrations and organization of departmental breakfasts, Sunshine shows random acts of kindness, flowers and other items to celebrate milestone events in our lives. Sunshine will organize a whole staff event each quarter. We will be asking for a 500,000 VND contribution to be paid in the first weeks of school.
Reimbursement for Wellness Books: If you purchased a book for the Wellness summer reading, please look for an email from Kelly Braun detailing how you can be reimbursed. You need to do this by August 23rd to ensure reimbursement. If you have questions, please ask Hang. She can help you.
House League T-Shirt Design Content: Rick sent out the following information about HL t-shirts. Teachers can submit designs too!
