Week Ahead: May 9
It was a short week, but packed full! Just 4 1/2 weeks left … can you believe it? As we all look forward to the end of the school year, student behaviors can ramp up. Being proactive is the best way to ensure a happy, smooth road to the end. Let’s all increase the amount of time we are spending in the halls during passing time, before school and after school. Simple redirections, reminders, and generally getting them to slow down and think will really pay off for all of us!

MAP Testing: Though the first day didn’t start as smoothly as we’d have liked, I am so impressed by the resourcefulness and persistence demonstrated by all of you. Hopefully, we will have an easier go of it on Tuesday and Thursday. One repeat from last week’s blog: As we know, our students generally take these tests very seriously. Please take time to talk with the students about the test coming up and how we use it to measure growth over the year. Remind them that asking others what their score is may make their friends uncomfortable (and it’s not really good manners do that even if you are close friends).
Grade Reporting Guidelines: There are 4 weeks left in the school year. As we get closer to the end of the year, please be very aware of the assessments you are entering in PS. From the Reporting Guidelines, students should be receiving feedback in PS about every 4 class meetings. That would mean each student should have 7-8 marks per class in PS so far this semester, 9-10 by the end of the semester. As you review your courses in PS, think about how to ensure the marks entered from now until the end of the year provide timely feedback and gives the students opportunities to improve and grow.
